Radishes are hardy root vegetables grown for their crisp, colourful, and peppery roots. They are one of the easiest vegetables to grow and can be planted multiple times in a season — and be ready to harvest in as soon as three weeks.
Radish seeds can be planted in both the spring and fall. They thrive most when temperatures are below 70 F. When seeds are sown in warmer temperatures, it causes the radish plants to bolt.
When planting, choose a sunny spot in your garden that gets at least six hours of sun a day.
For spring planting, sow seeds about 4 to 6 weeks before the last spring frost, and for fall planting, seeds should be sown 4 to 6 weeks before the first fall frost.
While you can direct sow radishes right outside in your garden, in this video, I share how you can seed start radishes indoors to get a jump on the spring gardening season.
